The amount of misinformation around vaginal hygiene is honestly impressive. Stop for the love of god buying those her fantasy boxes where the ads are all like “my man said it doesn’t smell like cupcakes and sprinkles.” Newsflash, it’s not supposed to! They are really not necessary.
Like, who decided the vagina needed to smell like a tropical fruit and then convinced generations of people that anything else was a problem?
Let’s fix this.
Your Vagina Is Not Dirty
The vagina is self-cleaning. It maintains its own balance of bacteria and pH.
Which means:
- You do NOT need to wash inside it
- You do NOT need special scented products
- You do NOT need to “fix” it
External washing with mild, unscented soap? Fine.
Internal cleaning? Absolutely not.

Douching Is Not Hygiene It’s Disruption
Douching can:
- Throw off your natural pH
- Kill beneficial bacteria
- Increase risk of infections
If a product tells you your body needs correcting, question the product and who owns the company, not your body.
“Feminine Washes” Are Mostly Marketing
Many of these products:
- Contain fragrances that irritate skin
- Disrupt natural balance
- Create the very problems they claim to solve
It’s a cycle: create insecurity → sell solution → repeat.
Period Products Shouldn’t Be Confusing
There are multiple options:
- Pads
- Tampons
- Menstrual cups
- Discs
And yet many people were handed one option and told to figure it out.
Using a tampon shouldn’t feel like a guessing game.
Learning about your options shouldn’t happen through panic and trial-and-error.

Odor ≠ Problem (Most of the Time)
A mild scent is normal.
Stronger odor with symptoms like itching, burning, or unusual discharge? That’s when you check in with a healthcare provider.
But the idea that you should smell like nothing at all, all the time? Unrealistic. You sweat you were clothes. It’s so normal, so don’t be ashamed about it.
Hygiene Shouldn’t Be Rooted in Shame
When hygiene is taught through embarrassment instead of education:
- People over-clean
- Use harmful products
- Feel disconnected from their bodies
Your body is not something you need to constantly correct.
